Douche Bag

Is the term passé?

Not if you use it in the correct context.

This came up at the Jester 7 days ago…… and in a moment of perfect marriage Amy and I totally agreed. You can’t just toss the phrase around like the word “the” or the phrase “pass me another beer”. Douche bag can and should be used…… but like “the force”……… it must be used wisely.

As I’m sitting on the couch tonight watching the hockey game (which had a great tribute for Remembrance Day) Amy and I see some dude in the platinum seats standing up while on his cell phone waiving to his loser friend on the other end saying…. no doubt…. “Can you see me? Am I on Hockey Night in Canada? Can you see me?” And in another moment of perfect marriage we agree 100% that……this dork is a total Douche Bag!

Baseball

Just found out that the baseball season wrapped up last night. I had no clue they were still playing. In case you are in the same boat as me……. the Red Sox won the Series.

I’m not a baseball fan….. here is the way I see it…… I feel the same way about baseball as the general population of the USA feels about hockey. Who Cares!

I’ll flip on a Jays game if there is nothing else on the tube… and I can’t get myself to take a nap. This is why I feel Hockey will never be a big draw south of border (outside of the established hockey markets).

Only 4 months until spring training starts.

Blah… Monday

Today feels like a Monday that is going to last all week. Its not a good sign when you are watching Mike Weir win a PGA Tour event on Sunday while thinking to yourself….. Why can’t it be Friday? I feel that I need a vacation. It seems that the last 10 days were Monday. I don’t like Mondays. Tell me why?

Lets do a quick weekend recap…….

• Raps pre-season game on Friday. Good times. I do enjoy watching the Raptors…. at least when the win.
• Chilled on the couch after the game…. spilled a lot of beer on the couch.
• Biggest event of Saturday. Dave completed his first marathon! You are the man. Dave is the person who inspired me to start running…. now he has inspired me to train harder and run further.
• Agro’s clinched a home playoff game by beating Montreal on their home turf on Saturday.
• Dragged my sorry ass out for a 10K run Saturday afternoon. Temperature was great… but it was windy… not cool.
• Late Saturday afternoon dropped by Greg & Kim’s end of summer BBQ… .met their new baby. Nice one.
• Pints at a pub for a friend’s birthday on Saturday Night.
• Leafs sucked again on Saturday night.
• Sunday….. relaxed on the couch for a while.
• Set up and held the ladder for Amy as she completed a scary mission to cut off the piece of aluminum siding that dislodged itself from our house during a huge wind storm…. it was scary… she was up really high and had to reach and prop herself against the neighbours house. Our ladder was not quite long enough.
• Sunday afternoon gave Amy a tiny bit of help with the gardening… mostly moral support from the couch. I did drive to pick up the cedar chips… then loaded into the car and unloaded.
• Watched Weir win the golf tournament.
• Dinner with the in-laws.
• Watched a little TV then went to bed early so I could get up to go running this morning.

We are the Champions…..

Well at least for now…….

My hockey team got a wild card entry into the facility championship.  Over the weekend we played 4 games and even managed to eliminate the team that beat us for our the Monday Night Championship, that was nice.

We we won the facility championship tonight, and we are off to the regional championship in Oakville, ON next weekend.  If we win or get to the finals next week we qualify for the National Championship in San Jose, CA.  I don’t really understand how the Canadian Nationals are in the US… but who am I to judge.  What is equally as weird is they take place in 2009.  I can only imagine they don’t run the national championships every year.

No trophy to lap the ice with… but we did get ASHL wind breakers.

NHL…… but no Cup talk

So I hear on the radio today that the Leafs have signed Nic Andropov to a 2 year $4.1 million contract extension. I’m not going to gripe about that because I really don’t have an opinion on who the leafs should or should not sign.

My gripe is what Nic said on the interview, and I’ll paraphrase.

“We have a good core of players who have been around for the past 6 years or so. We have good chemistry and we know what to expect next season.”

Nic… we all know what to expect. We expect to be disappointed. We expect you to miss the playoffs again. We expect that with the same players you will have the same poor results.

Its far to frustrating to think about the Leafs so I must stop.

Argo’s pre-season starts on Saturday, after that I’ll have something better to write about… ArrrrrrrGooooooooooSssssssss!
