We need PORN. What Marketing Genius came up with this plan?

I wonder how many heads will roll over the failed attempt by Telus to provide porn directly to your cell phone?

I guess wireless companies don’t have enough headaches coming up with ass backwards rate plans and ways to confuse you when you open you bill. Now they have to come up with a scheme to cast even more shadows over the company.

Since my wife works in PR my first thought is about the poor SOB public relations person who had to field all the calls from pissed off parents and religious nut bars. What a nightmare.

My second thought is about the freak shows who will be pulling a “George Michael” anywhere and everywhere (that put was intentional) now that they can have their porn on demand. There are enough freak shows on the subway already, we don’t need crazy Jim downloading the latest porn video on his way to Zanzibar.

Way to go Telus!  Maybe the next service you can offer is the “Racial Slur Ring Tone“.

  • I worked in the PR Dept. at ClearNet, then Clearnet, then Telus Mobility, but I got out before they lost the Mobility… believe me, Porn was always in the plans because Porn drives technology adoption rates among us mortals. No Porn no 8mm, no VCR’s, no home movie-camera’s, no DVD’s, no pocket packs of Kleenex… the entire world economy is based on people wanting to see their neighbour’s teenage daughter naked.

Coolest thing about working at ClearTelusNetMobility was I got to meet The Ducks. By then the fame had gone to their heads a little so I couldn’t get too close. http://www.Taxi.ca, the ad firm behind The Ducks, actually had “Duck Wrangler” as a paid position. I always thought that was cool.

  • I’m totally on board with Porn driving technology. My first job in out of school was with a web imaging company. We had some porn clients in our stable and actively worked on others. For me it was very eye opening when I found out that the likes of Macy’s and Blockbuster were hesitant to adopt new technology before it got the “latex” rubber stamp from the porn industry.
